Diane von Fürstenberg Fall Winter 2013

The youthful fall winter 2013 collection by the First Lady of American fashion (remember Diane’s iconic wrap dress) had a strong essence of 1970s New York fashion. Diane is currently acting as her own creative director after the exit of her former creative director Yvan Mispelaere, thus directing the design team herself.

The collection was inspired by Diane’s own life and David Bowie’s when they were young. In the accompanying notes to the collection, Diane says that the archetypal DVF woman "is the rock star and the muse of her own life". For her Life is the party.

Leopard  and wavy prints – especially the heady mix of black and white inspired by the work of  M. C. Escher, a Dutch graphic artist- played out to the very idea of a strong and independent woman. Snake printed wrap dress, cigarette pants, tunic tops and dresses, jackets, billowing gown, maxis, jumpsuit, halter gowns, sleek metallics in a colour palette of hot pink, bright red, raspberry, fuchsia, aubergine, cobalt, gold, sky blue, turquoise and black celebrated colourful youthful days thus bringing back the feisty retro chic days.

Life is indeed a party for a DVF girl.
